Preparation for adulthood at key stage 5

  • Employment: pupils develop career portfolios, gain work experience, and receive targeted careers guidance aligned to the Gatsby Benchmarks
  • Independent living: practical programmes build self-sufficiency in managing money, household tasks, and personal organisation
  • Community inclusion: pupils take part in volunteering, team projects, and leisure activities to increase confidence and social skills
  • Health: focus on maintaining physical and mental health, accessing services, and developing resilience for adult life

By the end of key stage 5, every young person leaves Horizons Academy with a clear transition plan, agreed with families and professionals. This could include further education, apprenticeships, employment, supported living, or independent living. The aim is that all learners feel confident, capable, and ready for their next chapter.
